The Himachal Pradesh government has initiated the process of designating Pangi Valley as a natural farming sub-division, according to a spokesperson from the Agriculture Department.
This move follows the announcement made by Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Himachal Day, April 15. The Chief Minister stated that barley produced in the Pangi region would be procured at a Minimum Support Price (MSP) of ₹60 per kilogram — a step expected to provide a significant economic boost to local farmers.
To ensure the effective implementation of this plan, a committee formed under the Prakritik Kheti Khushhal Yojana (PK3Y), as directed by the Chief Minister, visited three panchayats in the region — Shaur, Purthi, and Rai. During the visit, the team held meetings with panchayat representatives and local farmers to share detailed information about the concept, benefits, and techniques of natural farming.
Additionally, a meeting was held in Killar under the chairmanship of the Resident Commissioner. It was attended by the BDC Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, BDC members, and the heads and deputy heads of all 19 panchayats in Pangi. The meeting involved in-depth discussions on adopting natural farming, planning its implementation across the region, and collecting suggestions from various panchayats.
The spokesperson added that the Resident Commissioner highlighted key features of natural farming to local representatives and encouraged residents of the valley to adopt this eco-friendly method. Experts from Shimla, who were part of the committee, also gave detailed presentations on various aspects of natural farming.
He said this initiative would not only strengthen the agricultural sector in Pangi but also help establish the region as a model natural farming valley. The move is expected to bring substantial economic improvement to the area.
