The main road leading to Bhakra Dam and the left bank powerhouse of the dam is blocked due to landslides. A massive landslide near Nehla village has also led to the closure of the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) railway track leading to the dam.
While it will take at least 15 days for the BBMB to clear the railway track, restoring the road for vehicular traffic might take a month or more as the retaining wall has collapsed at many places. The bus service from Nangal to Naina Devi through the Bhakra Dam head will remain suspended till then.
Bhakra Dam Chief Engineer CP Singh said they have already invited short-term tenders for repairing the road. He said villagers can avail the BBMB bus service till the railway track is cleared and the road repaired.
