Senior Congress leader and Vice President of Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC), Naresh Chauhan said the results of the nine by-polls in Himachal Pradesh had given a clear message to the BJP that any conspiracy to topple a democratically elected government will not succeed.
“The people of the state have sent a strong message through their votes that such politics will not be accepted in the country and the state. In a democracy, public opinion must always be respected,” he told media persons here today.
Chauhan took a dig at Leader of Opposition, Jai Ram Thakur, holding that the former CM was not able to provide any new date of government change in Himachal after the by-poll results.
“He had been saying the government will change in HP time and again. We hope Jai Ram Thakur would learn from the by-election defeat and play a positive role as the opposition leader,” he said.
Chauhan mentioned that the legislator Sudhir Sharma was overly enthusiastic after his victory and was surpassing BJP leaders.
“Sharma has been meeting with BJP's national leaders separately in Delhi,” he said.
Chauhan said after the by-elections, the number of Congress legislators in Himachal had again reached 40. He stated that the public did not favor BJP's politics and have shattered its dream of toppling the government.
“The BJP attempted to topple the majority government. The decision went to the court of the public and the public favoured Congress in Himachal Pradesh, giving a mandate for a strong government once again. The people elected 40 Congress MLAs in 2022. We are back to that number,” he said.
Chauhan said there was a leadership struggle within the BJP now, with Sudhir Sharma meeting Delhi BJP leaders without informing the state BJP leadership, which should be a concern for Leader of Opposition, Jai Ram Thakur and state BJP Chief Rajiv Bindal.
He said CM Sukhu was presenting Himachal's interests before the Prime Minister and other ministers to secure financial aid for the state. He said the government would focus on developmental works and would leave no stone unturned to advance the state in every field, as the Sukhu government was receiving immense support and love from the people.
