The Himachal Pradesh government is going stricter on social media use by government employees.
Official sources said the state government will shortly notify the rules regarding this. Under the rules, the employees will have to deposit 20% of their earnings through reels or YouTube channels in the government treasury.
The decision has been taken following reports that many government employees have been posting reels and running YouTube channels and earning income through them, and few others have sought official permission to run YouTube channels while serving in the government.
Sources said the officials in the state secretariat have been entrusted with the job to identify and make a list of the government employees, who engage themselves in social media for income generation. Many of them have been doing it during duty hours.
Sources said the Finance department is studying the rules in this regard and may come up with certain directions on the usage of social media by government employees.
Possibly, government employees may be directed to take permission from the government for uploading reels or any other use of social media, that generates income.
The conduct rules of the government employees say that they can’t simultaneously work anywhere else. However, with the advent of social media, many are violating these conduct rules.
“The government intends to regulate the use of social media by government employees against conduct rules and may pose restrictions. Also, the government employees may be barred from misleadingly posting government information or uploading blogs and reels during duty hours in general,” shared a high up, on terms of anonymity
