The Jammu and Kashmir government is executing a plan to create a unique family identification for every household in the Union Territory in a bid to streamline the delivery of public services.
Officials said they informed reporters on Sunday that the initiative will also enhance the beneficiary outreach and serve as a source of truth for the planning and monitoring across government departments in Jammu and Kashmir.
The chief secretary, Atal Dulloo, on Saturday chaired a high-level groundwork for the creation of the newly proposed household IDS, officials said.
Dulloo said, “It is a critical step towards fostering a more accountable and responsive administration.”
Meanwhile, Secretary of the Planning, Development and Monitoring Department (PD&MD), Talat Parvez, provided a robust overview of the scheme.
While the government of Jammu and Kashmir has already extended many services, this particular program is focused on extending the benefits of the government-run schemes to potentially deserving households.
However, the government have not confirmed or elucidated the services they wish to extend through this program. There have often been misconstrued sceptical opinions regarding any central or state government initiatives, particularly in Kashmir.
Whenever such schemes are announced, people start questioning the benefits they would receive in exchange for the information they are going to provide to the government.
According to planners, “the new family IDs would limit the duplication of the documentation and would also prevent the misuse of the financial resources draining the state exchequer.”
The official further said, “The family ID initiative is poised to be a definitive solution to this long-standing conundrum, ensuring that services are delivered seamlessly and efficiently to those who need them most.”
