The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, has summoned the Union Territory’s Legislative Assembly to meet in Srinagar on October 23, 2025, at 10 AM.
An order was issued today under Section 18(1) of the J&K Reorganisation Act, 2019.As such, all the Members of the Legislative Assembly have been requested to attend the session on the scheduled date and time.The notification reads, “I, Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, in exercise of powers under Section 18(1) of the J&K Reorganisation Act, 2019, do hereby summon the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly to meet at Srinagar on Thursday, the 23rd October, 2025 at 10.00 AM.All Hon’ble Members have been requested to ensure their presence as per Rule 3 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business of the Assembly".
Earlier, the Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, had recommended that the Assembly be convened on October 13 to 20 but the LG finalized the date as October 23. The Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet on Tuesday last had recommended to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha that the next sitting of the Union Territory’s legislature be convened in Srinagar for a week, ahead of the traditional biannual move of government offices to Jammu for winter months..“This schedule fits within the legal requirement that no more than six months should elaps...elapse between two sessions of the legislature. The Cabinet felt October 13 to 20 was the most suitable window,” sources privy to the meeting said.
Lieutenant Governor, holds the authority to summon the legislature under the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019. This will be the third full session of the Omar Abdullah-led government since it assumed office last year. Even though it has not been mentioned as to what will be duration of the session, sources indicate in view of some pending key business and discussion expected on significant issues, it may not last within just one week.
