Jharkhand Finance Minister Radha Krishna Kishore met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and the Coal Minister, G Kishan Reddy on Friday. Kishore handed over a written memorandum to the Union Coal Minister, requesting him to pay the outstanding amount, regarding the demand made by the Government of Jharkhand from the Center for the amount of Rs 1.36 lakh crores in the coal excavation sector of Jharkhand.
Kishore told the Union Coal Minister that Jharkhand is striving for socio-economic progress by increasing its internal sources of income. Financial support from the Center is necessary for the proper development of the state of Jharkhand.
He reiterated the demand for State’s outstanding dues of Rs 1 lakh 36 thousand crores.

Reddy called Additional Secretary of Coal Ministry Smita Pradhan and instructed her to form a team of officials of Coal Ministry of Government of India and Mines Ministry of Jharkhand Government as soon as possible and hold a cordial meeting to calculate the actual amount of dues so that Jharkhand can be paid the dues on the issue of coal excavation.
Notably, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and his party JMM have been raising the demand of Rs 1.36 lakh crore as mining royalty from the Central PSUs since long.
The issue has been raised during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and 2024 Assembly elections of the State. The Central Government, however, has denied any dues with the State.
