“Gunshots are now replaced by the sounds of progress, the plan had been rolled out to not just root out terrorism from Jammu & Kashmir but also dismantle its entire ecosystem,” said Lieutenant Governor of J&K Manoj Sinha, while addressing the ‘Baat Bharat Ki’ Conclave-2024 Panchjanya at New Delhi.

Although some adversaries continue to add fuel to the fire of terrorism, “the Centre is working towards fostering peace instead of purchasing it,” added Sinha.

Commenting on the tourism sector of the valley, he stated that a record 2.12 crore tourists, including 55,000 foreign visitors, travelled to J&K in the previous year which is a spike of 350 per cent.

“Not just locals but tourists also enjoy the cold temperature in Kashmir, despite the severity in weather conditions. Even the nightlife of the valley has begun to develop. After all, who can forget the New Year’s event in Lal Chowk, which went viral on social media. All of this signifies that the region is progressing towards peace and normalcy,” added Sinha, who after taking control of J&K abolished the bi-annual Darbar move exercise, which used to put an additional burden on the State’s exchequer.

Besides highlighting that J&K has surpassed Madhya Pradesh in terms of providing digital services, Sinha added that the valley has topped the charts in implementation of Public Services Guarantee Act (PSGA), owing to which 866 officers were fined for delay in catering to public needs.

In an attempt to thank the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for considering J&K development as one of nation’s top priority, Sinha added, “30,500 jobs were given and 7 lakh new entrepreneurs started their ventures in the valley last year, despite being only one per cent of India’s population.”

He even expressed his gratitude for giving J&K the treatment it deserves for being the jewel of India.
