The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha today said that it would contest Assembly elections in Jharkhand on its own in all 81 seats if there is any confusion in leadership among the coalition partners in the State.
The JMM responded strongly in the wake of Congress’ rotational CM proposal.
The JMM gave its reply in response to Jharkhand Congress in-charge Ghulam Ahmed Mir’s statement that if the Congress party wins 30-40 seats in the Assembly elections, the State could have chief ministers of JMM and Congress on a rotational basis.
Addressing media persons in a press conference, JMM General Secretary cum Spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya said, “We have huge pressure on workers in the party to contest from all 81 seats because of the kind of work we have done in the last five years.”
“We have full preparation to contest from all seats. If anyone has any confusion then one should remember the 2009 and 2014 elections,” he said.
Bhattacharya said that in a coalition, the language of partners should also match. “I don’t want to comment more. We have given them seats in Lok Sabha and the Assembly polls will be fought only in the leadership of Hemant Soren and the ideals of Guruji Shibu Soren,” he said.
“Whoever comes with us and accepts our leadership we welcome them. Otherwise, we are strong enough to contest on all 81 seats and win a minimum of 55 seats in the State,” said Bhattacharya.
Notably, JMM had emerged as the single largest party in the 2019 Assembly polls winning 30 seats, while the Congress won 16 seats.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections Congress contested on seven seats and the JMM fought on five seats. One seat each was given to the RJD and Left.
