The Jammu and Kashmir administration has set a 20-day deadline for the completion of preparations for the Amarnath Yatra set to begin on June 29, said officials.

Preparations for the Amarnath Yatra include setting up temporary camps, ensuring medical facilities and emergency services are in place, providing adequate security arrangements, and maintaining the route to the holy cave.

The 52-day pilgrimage to the 3,880-metre-high cave shrine in south Kashmir is scheduled to begin on June 29 and conclude on August 19.

Over one lakh pilgrims have registered for the Amarnath Yatra, which can be undertaken via two routes: the traditional 48-km route through Pahalgam in Anantnag and the 14-km shorter but steeper Baltal route in the Ganderbal district of central Kashmir.

Meanwhile, the Bhagwati Nagar-based Yatri Niwas, serving as the main base camp for pilgrims from across the country, is undergoing extensive renovations.

During his visit, Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar was updated on the status of ongoing works, which include resurfacing roads, levelling the parking ground, renovating washrooms, and installing lights.

“Install adequate signage with information regarding Yatri Niwas, railway station, bus stand, and registration for the ease of pilgrims,” Kumar directed officials.

The high-level delegation includes senior officials from the Municipal Corporation, police, traffic, tourism, and other departments accompanying them.

Kumar was apprised of the ongoing works, including face-lifting of the entry gate, resurfacing roads, levelling the parking ground, whitewashing, renovating washrooms, repairing ACs and fans, and installing lights and floodlights.

He also reviewed health facilities, prefab toilet arrangements, ticket counters, RFID counters, community kitchen shed, installation of dustbins, provision of mobile SIMs, ATM, and super bazaar facilities.

Discussions on security arrangements were also held, with directions issued to ensure all necessary preparations were completed within the given timeframe.
