The Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNPTR) has experienced an unprecedented rise in visitor footfall during the fiscal year 2023-24.
Revered for its awe-inspiring landscapes, diverse wildlife, and iconic inhabitants such as the one-horned rhinoceros, Kaziranga has solidified its position as a premier destination for families and wildlife aficionados alike.
This year's influx marks the highest number of visitors to the Park since its establishment, confirmed a park official.
Throughout the fiscal year 2023-24, Kaziranga National Park recorded a staggering 3,27,493 tourist arrivals, comprising 3,13,574 Indian tourists and 13,919 foreign visitors.
Comprising three administrative divisions, namely the Eastern Assam Wildlife Division, the Bishwanath Wildlife Division, and the Nagaon Wildlife Division,
KNPTR witnessed a surge in tourism across all sectors.
Upon the re-opening of the tourism season post-monsoon in mid-October 2023, visitors were drawn to key attractions such as the Jungle Safari and Elephant Safari options.
Additionally, the introduction of cycling trails in Karbi-Anglong, trekking routes in the Panbari forest range, and Chirang further enriched the visitor experience.
Notable ethnic restaurants like Choran-Ahem (Karbi) and Ajun Ukum (Mising), spearheaded by community representatives, gained widespread acclaim.
Meanwhile, Bwisag-Na (Bodo), a women-led restaurant at Burachapori, made commendable strides in establishing its presence.
In a bid to enhance visitor engagement, new routes were introduced under the Boat Safari for dolphin watching, along with the Panpur and Burachapori jeep and cycling safari circuits, offering visitors an immersive experience amidst the park's natural splendor.
Comparative data reveals a substantial increase in visitor numbers across the park's administrative divisions. In 2023-24, the Eastern Assam Wildlife Division welcomed 3,20,961 visitors, while the Nagaon Wildlife Division and the Bishwanath Wildlife Division hosted 3,484 and 3,048 visitors respectively.
Furthermore, the fiscal year 2023-24 saw significant revenue generation across the park's divisions, with the Eastern Assam Wildlife Division leading with Rs 8,59,48,351 in earnings, followed by the Nagaon Wildlife Division with Rs 6,24,000 and the Bishwanath Wildlife Division with Rs 16,11,810.
