Kolkata rape accused alters story, says he's being framed

Sanjay Roy being escorted for interrogation amid ongoing investigations into the Kolkata doctor rape and murder case.

Sanjay Roy, the primary suspect in the brutal rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor in Kolkata, has reportedly reversed his confession, now alleging that he is being framed and is innocent.

The development comes as Roy is set to undergo a polygraph test today, following his recent claims of innocence.

According to jail sources, Roy told prison guards that he had no knowledge of the heinous crime.

This claim starkly contrasts with his earlier confession to the Kolkata Police, where he admitted to the rape and murder of the doctor inside a seminar hall at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Roy’s retraction of his confession was also echoed in his statements before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) court in Sealdah on Friday.

He has expressed willingness to take the polygraph test to prove his innocence.

Despite these assertions, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and police officials have identified significant inconsistencies in his statements.

An officer involved in the investigation highlighted Roy’s attempts to mislead authorities. The officer pointed out that Roy had been unable to account for injuries to his face and other parts of his body or explain his presence in the building during the crime.

CCTV footage has placed Roy in the corridor near the crime scene at 4:03 am on August 9, just minutes before the murder occurred.

The polygraph test, initially scheduled for Saturday, was postponed due to technical issues but is expected to proceed on Sunday. Meanwhile, six individuals, including former principal Dr. Sandip Ghosh and four other doctors, were subjected to lie-detector tests on Saturday.

Sanjay Roy remains in solitary confinement in Cell Number 21 under stringent security measures, with CCTV cameras monitoring the area outside his cell to ensure strict surveillance.

Psychological assessments have painted a disturbing picture of Roy. A recent psychoanalytic profile characterized him as a pervert with a severe addiction to pornography, describing his instincts as “animal-like.”

A CBI officer reported that Roy displayed no remorse during interrogations, providing detailed accounts of the crime without any sign of repentance.

The investigation continues as the CBI interrogates over 15 individuals, including police officers and civic volunteers, in connection with the case.

The murder of the trainee doctor occurred on August 9 at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The victim had sought rest in the seminar hall during her 36-hour shift.

Her autopsy revealed 16 external and 9 internal injuries. CCTV footage analysis confirmed that Roy entered the building around 4:03 am on the day of the murder.

Prior to this, he was seen on camera in the chest department on August 8, allegedly observing the victim and others.
