KTR: BRS won’t fight MLC polls slated for April 23

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi had earlier stayed away from the February 27 elections to two teacher and one graduate constituency MLC seats in the state.

BRS working president KT Rama Rao said the party will boycott the April 23 MLC election for the Hyderabad local authorities constituency. The party has not fielded a candidate. A whip will be issued to BRS corporators in the GHMC Council, instructing them not to vote.

Earlier, the BRS also skipped the February 27 elections for two teacher and one graduate MLC seats.

The current contest is between BJP’s N. Goutham Rao and AIMIM’s Mirza Sayeed Ul Hassan Effendi. The Congress party is supporting the AIMIM candidate.

The only election the BRS has contested recently was the MLC poll from the MLA quota, held on March 20. Dr Sravan Dasoju of BRS won unopposed, along with three Congress members and one CPI member, as there were no other candidates.

Rama Rao made these comments during a meeting with party leaders. The meeting was part of preparations for the party’s silver jubilee event on April 27. A public meeting will be held at Elkathurthi in Warangal district.

He said by-elections will soon be held in seats where BRS MLAs defected to Congress. He urged party workers to be ready.

“BRS is strong in Hyderabad. It is stronger than Congress or BJP here,” he said. “People are growing unhappy with the Revanth Reddy government. We must be prepared for the bypolls.”

Rama Rao also criticised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. He questioned his silence on the ‘National Herald’ case. Congress leaders Sonia and Rahul Gandhi have been named in the ED chargesheet.

“Revanth Reddy has not said one word about this case. He has also not criticised the BJP’s attacks on his party’s top leaders,” Rama Rao said. “This shows how close Revanth Reddy is to Prime Minister Modi. One is ‘Chote Bhai’ and the other is ‘Bade Bhai’.”

He also said the state’s eight BJP MPs target KCR but avoid criticising Revanth Reddy. “They are protecting him like a shield,” he added.
