A landslide took place along the Puttur By-pass Road, known as the Bantwal-Mysuru road and National Highway 275, as stated by officials on Friday.
Local sources reported that the landslide occurred at approximately 3 am on Friday, prompting vehicles travelling to Mysuru and Mangaluru to start using the route through Puttur town.
Police confirmed that there were no reports of anyone or any vehicles being trapped as a result of the landslide. Barricades have been set up at both entrances to the landslide area, redirecting traffic through Puttur city. The city police have also implemented measures to manage the traffic flow.
The State Highways Department dispatched excavation equipment and work teams to commence clearing the debris at 8 am.
The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre has forecasted additional rainfall in the coastal and interior coastal areas, which could impede clearance efforts on the affected stretches.
