The Srinagar-National Highway was closed again on Saturday due to persistent rainfall, mudslides, and shooting stones at multiple locations along the route, disrupting travel.
An official said, that vehicular movement was momentarily halted owing to rockslides and mudslides in Dalwas, Mehad, Gangroo, and Kishtwari Pather.
He also said that workers and machines had been called into action to clean the road as quickly as possible, adding that it might take several hours before the traffic is fully restored on the highway for vehicular movement.
Meanwhile, the authority requested commuters not to go on the highway until the road was fully repaired.
"Dalwas, Mehad, Gangroo, and Kishtwari Pather on NH-44 are undergoing restoration work. People are warned not to travel until the road is completely repaired," he said.
Continual heavy rainfall has soaked the roads along the highway, causing damp conditions in certain areas. Additionally, the rocky and mountainous terrain poses significant challenges and dangers to the ongoing vehicular movement on the highway.
It was blocked several times this past week amid inclement weather conditions IMD has predicted more rainfall in the coming week.
