Sub Head: Kalpana alleges torture of Hemant Soren inside jail, efforts by BJP to turn Jharkhand into Manipur
Newly elected MLA and JMM leader, Kalpana Murmu Soren has alleged that her husband and former Chief Minister of the state, Hemant Soren is being tortured in jail.
Referring to the case of the custodial death of tribal rights activist Father Stan Swamy, Kalpana said that efforts are being made to turn Jharkhand into Manipur. She said that the recent Lok Sabha election is the beginning of taking revenge for the custodial death of Father Stan Swamy.
Kalpana said that the custodial death of Father Stan Swamy is a black spot on the situation of democracy and human rights in India.
Sharing a picture of of late Father Stan Swamy and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on social media she wrote, “In this election Jharkhand has begun to avenge the unjust custodial death of 84-year-old Jesuit priest and trial rights activist Father Stan Swamy, which is a black spot on India's democracy and human rights situation.
Despite Father Stan's old age and Parkinson's disease, who advocated and fought for the rights of tribal communities for decades, he was denied bail and proper medical treatment on false terrorism charges framed by the BJP government. He was not given a straw worth 25 paise to drink water.
Due to deteriorating health from prison conditions, Father Stan unfortunately died in custody on July 5, 2021. His death is an example of BJP's policy of suppressing the opposition and tribals under the pretext of terrorism and criminalizing human rights work.
Just as Father Stan, who raised his voice for the most vulnerable, was silenced by institutional neglect and injustice, today the same kind of oppression is being done on Hemant Soren. Today, every Jharkhandi needs to stand strongly in support of Hemant Soren, otherwise, they (BJP) will not stop from turning Jharkhand into Manipur."
Notably, in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has won 3 Lok Sabha seats -- Dumka, Chaibasa and Rajmahal.
When Hemant Soren went to jail and Guruji (Shibu Soren) fell ill, Kalpana led the party in the elections. She held a series of public meetings. She also reached the Assembly by winning the bye-election of the Gandey Assembly.
