Bengaluru Police on Friday arrested a 21-year-old man, Aarav Hanoy, for allegedly murdering a 19-year-old Assamese woman, Maya Gogoi, in a service apartment in Indiranagar.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), D Devaraja, confirmed the arrest, stating, “We have secured the accused, and he has been brought to Bengaluru. We are currently interrogating him.” However, the exact location of the arrest was not disclosed.
Gogoi was discovered dead on Tuesday in the service apartment room, her body partially decomposed.
According to investigators, CCTV footage revealed that Gogoi and Hanoy had checked into the apartment on 23 November. The suspect reportedly fled the scene after committing the crime.
The gruesome incident came to light when staff at the service apartment alerted police following a foul odour emanating from the room.
A forensic team, along with police officials, inspected the site and confirmed that Gogoi had sustained multiple injuries, including a stab wound to her chest and a head injury.
A senior police official revealed details from the preliminary investigation, stating, “Both of them entered the lodge (service apartment) on November 23 at 12.28 pm. The suspect left the lodge on Tuesday, November 26, at 8.19 am.”
After leaving the premises, Hanoy reportedly turned off his mobile phone and went into hiding in a nearby area, the official added.
Police have registered a case under Sections 103 (murder) and 238 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The motive behind the murder remains under investigation, as police work to uncover the circumstances that led to the tragic incident.
