Leishangthem Rup, a high school student, has showcased his exceptional talent and technological prowess by creating a robot named "Kangleinganbi" capable of communicating fluently in the Manipuri language.

Rup, hailing from Singjamei Leishangthem Leikai, is currently pursuing his studies in the science stream at Central Academy, Khabam Chumbreithong, Mantripukhri.

His academic background in science has played a pivotal role in fostering his innovative approach towards technology and robotics.

In an interview with The People's Chronicle, Rup revealed that he embarked on the journey of creating the robot in 2020 during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, while he was a student at Kendriya Vidyalaya.

Inspired by the necessity for social distancing measures, Rup envisioned a robot that could assist in transporting and delivering goods and essential items, thereby minimizing physical contact during the challenging times brought about by the pandemic.

Despite the obstacles posed by the pandemic, Rup efficiently utilised his time and resources to bring his vision to life, culminating in the development of the unique robot.

Delving into the rationale behind the robot's name, Rup explained that "Kangleinganbi" carries cultural significance, blending "Kanglei" from Kangleipak, the ancient name for Manipur, with "Nganbi," meaning "light."

The choice of a feminine name for the robot was deliberate, considering Rup's family does not include any female members apart from his mother.

"Kangleinganbi" has been designed to respond to queries posed in Manipuri, serving as a valuable tool for individuals familiar with the language.

Furthermore, the robot has been programmed to sing Manipuri songs, adding a creative and cultural dimension to its capabilities.

Operated through a mobile application named "Automission," available for download from the Play Store, the robot connects to a mobile device via Bluetooth, enabling seamless control and interaction.

Following the successful assembly of the robot during the pandemic, Rup has continued to explore ways to harness technology for the betterment of society.

With the containment of the Covid-19 pandemic, Rup has expanded the potential applications of Kangleinganbi.

He has conducted trials in restaurants, where the robot performs tasks traditionally carried out by waitstaff, such as taking orders and serving food.

The robot has diaplayed its ability to function effectively in diverse environments.

Rup envisions a future where Kangleinganbi and similar robots play a pivotal role in assisting humans across various settings, providing invaluable support and optimizing processes.

Upon completing his high school education, Rup intends to pursue engineering, with a focus on developing advanced technologies that benefit humanity at large.
