Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai compared Maoism to cancer, emphasising the need to eliminate it completely by striking at its root.
Speaking at an event in Sukma, Sai highlighted the government’s efforts to combat Maoist violence and boost development in affected areas.
Over 230 Maoists neutralised
In the past year, security forces have killed more than 230 Maoists in various encounters, Sai stated. He explained that Maoists had entrenched themselves in parts of Bastar, exploiting and intimidating local people.
“Maoism is like cancer. To eradicate it, we need to attack its root. Maoists had turned some areas into their safest hideouts, but we decided to confront them in their dens,” Sai said, according to an official statement.

Impact on Sukma and Bastar
The chief minister noted that Maoist violence had severely affected the development of Sukma and the Bastar division. “Maoists pushed Sukma into deadly violence, halting progress. Over the past year, we’ve made several key decisions to develop Sukma and implemented them quickly,” he said.
Under a well-planned strategy, the government expanded police camps in Maoist-affected areas, bolstering the security network. Sai remarked that this has confined Maoists to a smaller area, leaving them in panic.
“In their frustration, they are resorting to cowardly acts. Here in Sukma, we pledge to uproot Maoism and avenge the martyrdom of our brave soldiers,” he declared.
During the event, Sai inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for 137 development projects worth ₹205 crore in Sukma district. These initiatives aim to bring progress and improve the quality of life in the region.
The chief minister reaffirmed his commitment to making Sukma and other affected areas safe, secure, and prosperous.
