The Madhya Pradesh government has commenced the procurement of wheat at the minimum support price (MSP) from March 15. The procurement process will continue until May 5.
Farmers who have not yet registered for wheat procurement have until March 31, to complete their registration. However, the state government has assured that if some farmers are unable to register within the stipulated timeframe, the registration deadline may be extended to accommodate them.
This year, the Madhya Pradesh government is offering a minimum support price of Rs 2,425 per quintal for wheat. Additionally, the state government has announced a bonus of Rs 175 per quintal, effectively raising the procurement price to Rs 2,600 per quintal. To sell their produce at government procurement centers, farmers must book an online slot in advance. Those who have not registered yet can still do so by March 31, ensuring their eligibility for government procurement benefits.
Along with wheat, the state government is also procuring other Rabi crops, including gram (chana), lentil (masoor), and mustard (sarson) at the minimum support price. Farmers interested in selling these crops at the MSP must complete their registration by March 21.
The government has fixed the MSP rates for these crops as follows:
- Gram (Chana): Rs 5,650 per quintal
- Lentil (Masoor): Rs 6,700 per quintal
- Mustard (Sarson): Rs 5,950 per quintal
The government aims to support farmers by ensuring fair prices for their produce and facilitating smooth procurement operations.
To enhance the procurement experience for farmers, the state government has directed officials to ensure the availability of essential facilities at all procurement centers across Madhya Pradesh.
These centers will be equipped with basic amenities, including tents, seating arrangements, drinking water, fans, toll machines, and computers for seamless operations. Additionally, cleaning machines will be installed to maintain hygiene and cleanliness at the procurement centers.
The Madhya Pradesh government’s initiative to provide a bonus along with the MSP and improve procurement facilities demonstrates its commitment to supporting the agricultural community and ensuring that farmers receive fair compensation for their produce.
