Former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be a part of the Election Commission's awareness program SVEEP in the Jharkhand Assembly elections. Chief Electoral Officer, Jharkhand K Ravi Kumar today said that Dhoni has given a letter to this effect to the Election Commission.
According to the CEO, Jharkhand, the Election Commission will use Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s picture in the programmes of SVEEP. At the same time, his appeal to motivate electors to vote in maximum numbers will be used to increase the voting percentage.
Kumar said that Mahendra Singh Dhoni will cooperate in the voter awareness campaign by joining the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Jharkhand. He said, the voter awareness campaign will get a boost with the involvement of a famous personality.
Notably, Dhoni was made the national icon for the Election Commission of India in 2010 also, when he actively worked for voters’ awareness programmes.
Meanwhile, the CEO informed that the nomination period for the first phase of the election in Jharkhand ended on Friday. Scrutiny of nominations will be done on 28th October. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is 30th October.
He said that till now 16 FIRs have been registered for violation of the Model Code of Conduct. He further said that till now illegal goods and cash worth more than 51.17 crores have been seized after the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct in Jharkhand.
