Expressing deep concern that the state is under ₹10 lakh crore debt and over ₹1 lakh crore bills are pending clearance, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, on Wednesday, felt that the previous government has totally misused the funds and diverted the Centre’s grants.

Addressing the Legislative Party meeting of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at CK Convention in Mangalagiri, the chief minister directed the MPs and MLAs of the alliance to design constituency-wise vision documents of their own.

“When we assumed charge the treasury was empty and there were no funds even to pay the salaries of the employees. Still we are moving ahead with confidence,” Naidu told MPs and MLAs.

Terming the Centre's assistance as oxygen for a person who is on a ventilator, Naidu felt that the state can never move on progressive path if there is no Central assistance.

Maintaining that efforts are being made to create 20 lakh jobs in the coming five years, he admitted that this tremendous success is possible only with the joint efforts of all the three alliance partners.

“I have never experienced this kind of colossal victory in my life. Those who were arrogant with the feeling that they had 151 seats now confined themselves to a mere 11 seats. This is democracy,” Naidu remarked.

The chief minister made it clear that those who had committed crimes should be punished at any cost, maybe a bit late.

Such persons who had committed crimes should be punished, he added. He is of the opinion that the former chief minister, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, did a grave mistake by closing the Anna Canteens.

Maintaining that the volunteer system ended even when Jagan was the chief minister, Naidu pointed out that he failed to renew the system.

“I will not leave those who had committed mistakes during the YSRCP rule. Inquiries are on,” he said and told the MPs and MLAs to be cautious.

Naidu added that the new excise policy will be in force in October first week and called upon the MPs and MLAs to take closer to the people the job being done by the Telugu Desam Party-led NDA Government.

Making it clear that the phase-one works of the Polavaram project will be completed in the next two years, the chief minister said that there is no fund crunch for the development of Amaravati and the capital will be taken forward.
