National Highway-5 (NH-5), also known as the Hindustan-Tibet Road, reopened for traffic on Monday morning after a four-hour blockade due to a landslide in Kinnaur district's Nigulsari area, in Himachal Pradesh. The landslide occurred on Sunday night, but fortunately, no casualties were reported.

Nigulsari is a landslide-prone area, and a massive landslide occurred at the same spot in September last year. However, the road has now been cleared and opened for vehicular traffic, according to K L Suman, Executive Engineer of the National Highway Authority of India.

Meanwhile, the local Met office has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning in isolated areas of the state on Monday and Tuesday. The monsoon activity is expected to increase in the next two to three days, with moderate to heavy precipitation in the state.

Isolated areas in 10 out of 12 districts - Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra, Mandi, Shimla, Chamba, Kullu, Solan, and Sirmaur - are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall during this period.

The Met department has cautioned that strong winds and waterlogging in low-lying areas may cause damage to plantations, standing crops, vulnerable structures, and kutcha houses.
