No option but to conduct Caste Census in the country: Rahul Gandhi

Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi today said that the BJP government at the Center has no other option left but to conduct a nationwide caste census.

He said that without a caste census, the correct blueprint of development cannot be drawn. He said that in the current situation in the country, there is no representation of Dalits, tribals and minorities in any sector. Even in the press conference he was holding, he asked about the representation of tribals among the journalists present there. He said that there is no representation of tribals in education, health, administration or corporate sector.

“The Prime Minister calls himself OBC and then starts saying that there are only rich and poor in the country. No matter which caste he belongs to, there are 50 per cent OBCs in the country and 15 per cent Dalits. Tribals are 8 per cent. We want a caste census to be conducted. Today the tribals do not know what their numbers are. The PM can say whatever he wants but get the caste census done. Let us present the data from the survey we conducted in 2011.

This is not a question of one person, this is a question of crores of poor people. To say in India that I am OBC is not relevant. The question is how many people are OBCs in this country because in big companies you will not find OBCs, tribals or Dalits. Out of 90 IAS officers who will run the country, only 3 will be found from the OBC community. That's why we are raising this question. Let him know whose population it is,” said Rahul in the last leg of his ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ in Simdega district today.

On the 25th day of his ‘Bharat Joda Nyay Yatra’ Rahul Gandhi started from Ranchi and crossed the Khunti, Gumla and Simdega districts of Jharkhand to reach Odisha. However, he skipped going to tribal icon and freedom fighter Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s birthplace Unilihatu village in Khunti district. This caused a lot of disappointment in the Congress workers of the district.

“The biggest issue in the country is injustice. Social injustice, economic injustice, inflation is increasing, injustice against farmers, injustice against workers. We have come out to fight against this injustice,” said Gandhi in Gumla district.

On February 2, Rahul Gandhi's Nyaya Yatra kicked off in the Pakur district of Jharkhand. After this, the convoy proceeded through Godda, Deoghar, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Hazaribagh, and Ranchi and reached Khunti, Simdega and Gumla.
