The Manipur government has dismissed reports of an infiltration of 900 trained Kuki militants from Myanmar, allegedly entering the state to carry out attacks on Meitei communities on September 28.

In a joint statement, Manipur Security Adviser Kuldiep Singh and Director General of Police Rajiv Singh clarified that the intelligence input could not be verified after extensive checks.

“In view of the recent reactions from different communities regarding input of infiltration of 900 trained Kuki militants from Myanmar to carry out attacks on Meiteis on September 28, it is clarified that the input was verified from different quarters, but it could not be substantiated on the ground,” said the press release, issued on Wednesday.

Despite the lack of concrete evidence, authorities have assured residents that precautionary measures are in place, urging them to remain calm and refrain from falling prey to misinformation or unverified claims.

"All communities have been assured of their safety and are advised not to believe in rumours or unverified information," the statement read.

Manipur's security forces, including the police, the Assam Rifles, and other agencies, have intensified surveillance along the state's porous border with Myanmar, especially in districts like Churachandpur, Pherzawl, and Kamjong.

These areas are considered vulnerable to militant infiltration due to their proximity to Myanmar.

Earlier, Kuldiep Singh had confirmed that approximately 900 well-trained Kuki militants had crossed over from Myanmar. In response, a Strategic Operation Group meeting was held on September 18, bringing together key officials from various security agencies to discuss countermeasures.

"Border security forces, particularly the Assam Rifles, have been placed on high alert," Singh noted, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
