J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah administered the unity pledge and flagged off the Run for Unity in Srinagar on National Unity Day here on Tuesday.

The nation is celebrating and commemorating National Unity Day on the birth anniversary of the leader, Sardar Vallabhai Patel.

The Run for Unity commenced at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) and concluded at the Botanical Garden, highlighting the spirit of togetherness that Sardar Patel advocated for.

After the recent Kashmir marathon, the residents have found a new passion for running; the old and young alike donned their running shoes.

The event witnessed participation from a diverse array of runners, including residents, students, and some dignitaries.

Earlier on Monday, CM Omar Abdullah kicked off Vigilance Awareness Week and administered the Integrity Pledge to promote integrity and transparency across public services.

Officers from across the region joined in person and also through online video conferencing to take a pledge to make J&K a corruption-free place.

Abdullah highlighted the importance of the sincere attitude of the officers and said to make integrity the guiding principle.

“Some may feel that they can exploit this system to their advantage, that they can find loopholes in this system that we have in J&K at the moment, but please rest assured, this is very much a temporary phase,” said Omar.

He added, “I have just come back from very successful meetings in Delhi. I have received assurances at the highest level that the commitments made to Jammu and Kashmir, particularly with regard to our governance model, will change.”

Therefore, if there is anybody who believes that somehow the fact that we are a UT will shield you from the consequences or practices that go against this pledge, please remember that the shield may last temporarily,” he said.

He cautioned employees and officers indulged in malpractices, saying, “Once full statehood is restored to Jammu and Kashmir, there will be no loopholes to exploit or any advantages to be taken by playing one against the other.”
