Former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has raised serious concerns over the ongoing shortage of DAP fertilizer in Haryana, alleging that the BJP government has once again failed to ensure timely supply to farmers, particularly during the crucial paddy transplantation season.

Hooda said there is a severe shortage of DAP in many districts including Sonipat, Jhajjar, Fatehabad, Hisar, and Rohtak, and claimed that farmers are being forced to go "from door to door" in search of fertilizers, while the government remains unresponsive.

“Farmers face a fertilizer shortage during every crop season because the BJP government fails to make timely arrangements. Due to this, farmers have to buy expensive fertilizers in the black market, which also puts an economic burden on them and production is also affected due to non-availability of fertilizers on time,” Hooda said.

“DAP has completely run out in Sonipat, because 1.10 lakh quintals of fertilizer is needed in this season, but till now only 40,000 quintals of DAP has reached the farmers. Similarly, there is a shortage in Jhajjar as well. Barely 150 quintals of DAP were supplied a week ago, but now the fertilizer supply has stopped and fertilizer supply has also stopped in Rewari,” he said.

He further pointed out that Rohtak district, which needs 1.70 lakh quintals, has yet to receive adequate stock. Fatehabad requires 1.85 lakh quintals, but only 55,000 quintals have been supplied so far. In Hisar, he added, no DAP has been supplied for the last 15 days, leading to growing resentment among farmers.

Hooda said since the BJP has come to power, it has neither been able to give MSP to the farmers, nor proper compensation, nor fertilizer and seeds on time. This is the first government in the history of the state, during whose tenure fertilizer had to be distributed inside police stations.

Every season, farmers, their families, women and even children have to wait in long queues for several days, and hence they are not able to get DAP and urea on time. Hooda said the government should take immediate steps to improve its management and its policy towards farmers.
