Jammu and Kashmir PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti criticised the NDA government on Saturday, claiming that its push for "one nation, one election" undermines the federal structure of the country and damages India’s Constitution.
“It’s unfortunate to see this NDA government destroying India’s Constitution day by day with their talk of ‘one nation, one election.’ You are undermining the federal structure,” Mufti told reporters.
She accused the government of taking the country backwards instead of forward, despite its vision of a "Viksit Bharat" by 2047.
“They talk of 2047, but they are moving in the reverse direction. After independence, the country had ‘one nation, one election,’ but the federal structure was born through the distribution of power. Now, they want to destroy it by taking us back to the same dictatorship, which is very wrong,” she said.
Earlier, while addressing PDP delegates at the party’s general council meeting, Mufti acknowledged that both J&K and the PDP are navigating challenging times.
“The PDP came into existence to face difficulties and challenges,” she told party workers, urging them to remain committed to the party’s agenda.
She criticised the National Conference-led government for remaining silent on pressing issues such as the release of Kashmiri youth detained in various jails, electricity shortages, and reservations. “We are not against the government, but they should address the problems of the people,” she said.
