Panchkula to be developed as Smart City: Haryana CM

He stressed that Haryana will play a crucial role in achieving Prime Minister Modi's vision of making India a fully developed nation by 2047.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday announced that Panchkula will be developed into a smart city equipped with modern infrastructure and essential civic amenities. He stressed that Haryana will play a crucial role in achieving Prime Minister Modi's vision of making India a fully developed nation by 2047.


Addressing a public gathering in Panchkula, Saini said the development of the city was pivotal to the progress of Haryana. “If Haryana is to progress, the development of Panchkula is essential,” he stated.


The chief minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for various development projects worth over Rs 55.38 crore. These include a newly constructed bridge over the Ghaggar river constructed by the Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP), built at a cost of Rs 50 crore.


The 360-meter-long and 16-meter-wide bridge is expected to significantly enhance regional connectivity by providing easier access to Zirakpur, Rajpura, Patiala, and Mohali Airport. It will also benefit commuters in Panchkula’s southern sectors, , Zirakpur and the southern sectors of Chandigarh. The project is part of the larger ring road initiative aimed at decongesting Panchkula and Chandigarh while improving interstate connectivity between Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Chandigarh.


He also laid the foundation stones for two dispensaries in Sectors 28 and 31, to be built at an estimated cost of Rs 4.64 crore, along with a Gram Sachivalaya in Kanauli village, Barwala, costing Rs 74.38 lakh. An additional Rs 5 crore has been allocated for development works across villages in the Panchkula Assembly constituency.


Reiterating his commitment to regional development, Saini "I am confident that these projects will play a significant role in the development of Panchkula, a city that continues to thrive under the divine blessings of Mata Mansa Devi and Gurudwara Nada Sahib."


Taking a dig at the Congress, the chief minister said while they demand an account of the development undertaken in the last 10 years, they must first present the report card of their own tenure. He emphasised that the current government is committed to inclusive growth guided by the principles of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, and Sabka Prayas.”


He said the construction of a Sanskrit College at Shri Mata Mansa Devi complexin Panchkula at a cost of Rs 22.19 crore, and the ongoing work on the Shri Mata Mansa Devi Corridor modeled modeled after the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor to enhance the cultural significance of the shrine.


He also spoke about efforts made in healthcare sector, including the upgradation of the district civil hospital to a 300-bed facility and the construction of Dr Mangal Sen Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32 at a cost of Rs 1,200 crore. A National Institute of Ayurveda is also being set up in the Mansa Devi campus with an investment of Rs 279 crore. Saini said since the formation of the present government, Panchkula has been witnessing a new era of development, with several transformative projects setting new benchmarks for progress in the region.


The chief minister said that since 2014, when the Haryana government undertook the responsibility of public service, both direction and development trajectory of Panchkula and the entire state have seen a remarkable transformation.
