Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday joined a ‘Mahila Sashaktikaran Maha Sammelan’ in Bhopal to commemorate the 300th birth anniversary of the revered queen Ahilyabai Holkar. The event took place at Jamboree Maidan.
The Prime Minister paid floral tributes to Ahilyabai Holkar, honouring her enduring legacy as a visionary ruler and a champion of good governance.
During the occasion, Modi virtually inaugurated the Super Priority Corridor of the Indore Metro, along with the Datia and Satna airports. He also laid the foundation stone for several developmental projects across Madhya Pradesh.
Ahilyabai Holkar (1725–1795), an 18th-century ruler of the Holkar dynasty in Malwa, is remembered for her exemplary administration, dedication to social welfare, and patronage of culture and spirituality. Known for her wise and just governance, she transformed Indore into a prosperous and well-administered state.
Ahilyabai was deeply committed to social welfare, championing the construction of temples, dharamshalas (rest houses), wells, and roads across India. She is remembered not only for her administrative acumen but also for her patronage of arts, culture, and spirituality, making her one of the most respected female leaders in Indian history.

The Prime Minister also sanctioned the first instalment of funds for 1,271 new Atal Gram Seva Sadan (Panchayat Bhawan), constructed at a cost of Rs 483 crore.
The six-kilometre Super Priority Corridor is part of the Indore Metro’s Yellow Line, encompassing five stations. Officials said the corridor will provide Indore—the country’s cleanest city—with a modern, pollution-free, and rapid transit facility, a first for Madhya Pradesh.
In tribute to the queen’s legacy, Modi released a commemorative postal stamp and a Rs 300 coin. Additionally, he presented the National Devi Ahilyabai Award to an artist recognised for significant contributions to tribal, folk, and traditional arts.
