Raising the political tempo ahead of the Bihar Assembly polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday held a high-energy roadshow in Motihari, flanked by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Kumar Sinha and Samrat Chaudhary.
Modi, waving to enthusiastic crowds from an open jeep, received a warm welcome from supporters lining the route. His visit coincides with the NDA’s renewed campaign push in the state months ahead of crucial elections expected later this year.
The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stones for a series of infrastructure and connectivity projects valued at over ₹7,200 crore. The projects include new Software Technology Parks, four Amrit Bharat trains, and significant rail and road development works.

“These projects will open doors of opportunity for the people,” Modi posted on social media ahead of the event.
The railway-related projects dedicated to the nation include automatic signalling on the Samastipur-Bachhwara line to streamline train operations, and the doubling of the Darbhanga-Thalwara and Samastipur-Rambhadrapur routes under the ₹580 crore Darbhanga-Samastipur project. Another key initiative involves the expansion of maintenance infrastructure for Vande Bharat trains at Patliputra.
The ₹4,080 crore Darbhanga-Narkatiaganj rail doubling project also featured prominently, aimed at improving sectional capacity and expanding passenger and freight movement between North Bihar and the broader railway network.
Additional upgrades to the Bhatni-Chhapra Gramin section—including traction system enhancements, are expected to raise train speeds and optimise energy use.
Modi’s visit comes at a politically significant juncture, with the Bihar Assembly elections likely to be held in October or November, although the Election Commission is yet to announce a date.
The BJP, JD(U), and LJP, partners in the ruling National Democratic Alliance, will seek to retain power, while the INDIA bloc, comprising the RJD, Congress, and Left parties, will attempt to unseat Nitish Kumar’s coalition.
In the current 243-member Bihar Assembly, the NDA commands a majority with 131 MLAs—BJP holding 80, JD(U) 45, HAM(S) 4, and 2 Independents. The INDIA bloc holds 111 seats, led by the RJD with 77, Congress with 19, CPI(ML) with 11, and the CPI(M) and CPI with two each.
As Modi’s convoy passed through Motihari’s main roads, chants of support and tricolour flags filled the air—signalling the NDA’s intent to kickstart a full-fledged electoral campaign in the coming weeks.
