Security measures have been significantly bolstered in anticipation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Kashmir, with officials confirming the implementation of a comprehensive four-layer security cover around the venue.
Amidst preparations for Thursday's much-awaited mega rally event, stringent security protocols have been enacted to ensure the safety of all attendees.
Contrary to the heightened security measures, authorities have assured that there will be no restrictions on vehicular movement or the movement of common citizens throughout the valley during the PM's address at the Bakshi Stadium.
The forthcoming visit holds significant importance, marking Prime Minister Modi's first trip to Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.
His recent address at a mega rally in Jammu on February 20 and the inauguration of the Sangaldan-Baramulla rail link underscore the significance of his engagements in the region.
A senior Jammu and Kashmir Police official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said, "The stores and roads surrounding the arena will stay open. The sole route PM Modi would take to reach the stadium from the landing site may be closed for a short time. We will ensure that there won't be any inconvenience to people."
The Special Protection Group (SPG) has assumed responsibility for securing the rally location, with close oversight from officials including Chief Secretary Atal Duloo, Director General of Police Rashmi Ranjan Swain, and other high-ranking officials.
A comprehensive security strategy has been devised, encompassing ground monitoring, aerial surveillance, and the deployment of security personnel both in uniform and plain clothes to ensure the event's smooth conduct.
The security arrangements entail a four-layer security blanket around the stadium, with designated zones overseen by police superintendents. These layers are designed to control access, monitor movements, and ensure the safety of attendees.
In addition to ground-level surveillance, high-rise buildings surrounding the stadium have been occupied, with sharpshooters stationed to preempt any potential security threats.
Aerial surveillance, facilitated by smart drones, further enhances monitoring capabilities.
