Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the Congress General Secretary and candidate for the Wayanad Lok Sabha bypolls, will launch her electoral campaign on Monday.
She took to social media, posting on her X handle that she would be talking with people throughout the day. "The people of Wayanad have historically stood up for truth, justice, and democracy, and they have sought to strengthen the spirit of the Constitution. The people of Wayanad will continue to enhance the Constitution and democracy, ushering in a new era of growth and progress. "The people's zeal and enthusiasm are impressive," she remarked.
Priyanka Gandhi will arrive by chopper to Meenangadi, where she will address three election rallies.
On Tuesday, she also has four election meetings, following which she will return, ending the first two days of her election campaign.
The state Congress party is aiming to give Priyanka Gandhi a victory with the biggest-ever margin from Kerala with a target of five lakh votes.
In fact, the state leadership followed their word when the largest crowd ever seen at any event in the hilly district attended the roadshow and meeting on Wednesday, after which she filed her nominations.
She was accompanied by her mother, Sonia Gandhi, who returned to the district after a decade. Priyanka Gandhi was accompanied by several national figures for her nomination submission and tour.
On Saturday, Priyanka sent a heartfelt letter to the people of Wayanad in both English and Malayalam, claiming that it would be a pleasure to learn from them and be a part of this brave community that knows how to respect one another and stand tall even in the most difficult circumstances.
She concluded her letter by adding that she would be extremely thankful if they elected to make her their MP.
The by-election became necessary since her brother Rahul Gandhi dropped the seat after winning the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat in the 2024 general elections.
The CPI has fielded veteran former legislator Sathyan Mokeri, who finished third in the 2014 Wayanad general elections, while the BJP has fielded young Kozhikode Corporation Party Councillor Navya Haridas, a former software engineer who quit her job to pursue full-time political career.
Rahul Gandhi won the 2019 general elections by a margin of 4.60 lakh in Wayanad, which decreased to 3.64 lakh in the 2024 general elections.
The area is divided into seven Assembly constituencies in three districts: Wayanad, Malappuram, and Kozhikode, and she will address one electoral meeting in each of the seven constituencies during her two-day visit.
Of the seven, four are held by the Congress-led UDF, two by the CPI (M), and one by the left-backed independent legislator P.V. Anvar, who has since split with the ruling Left and formed his own party.
