As tensions escalate along the India-Pakistan border, the Punjab government on Friday reviewed its emergency preparedness and stepped up security measures across the state’s border districts.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, following a high-level Cabinet meeting, said the state stands tall and firm to protect the country. He announced that the state will procure nine anti-drone systems to counter aerial threats.
“Though some shells have been found in parts of the state… these could be the debris of missives fired from across the border. But these will be things of the past soon. The Cabinet had today given its go ahead to the Punjab government to buy nine anti-drone systems. Once installed, the enemy will be in no position to fire drones here. From Pathankot to Fazilka, we will ensure your safety,” the Chief Minister said.
He reassured the public that there was no reason for panic and everything is under control in Punjab. “We are in regular touch with our DCs in six border districts. The posts of Tehsildars and Kanungos in all border districts have been filled. They need to be in regular touch with the armed forces, “ he said.
Mann said that the state government is extending the Farishtey scheme for providing free healthcare to accident victims. “The victims of any terror attack or war victims will also be treated for free,” he said.
The Cabinet reviewed the readiness of emergency services, including hospitals, fire stations, and essential supply chains. Officials also took stock of the availability of ration and medical resources in case of further escalation.
Highlighting support for civilians in potential conflict zones, Mann said the state’s Farishtey scheme, which provides free healthcare to accident victims, will now be extended to victims of terror attacks and wartime injuries.
To ensure on-ground monitoring, the Chief Minister directed 10 Cabinet ministers to immediately head to the six border districts. Ministers have been assigned to oversee preparedness and coordination with the local authorities and the armed forces.
