On Wednesday, Gandhi arrived in his constituency and repeated his charge of vote theft across the country. “The main slogan ‘Vote chor, gaddi chhor’ is being proven across the country. We will prove it again and again in more and more dramatic ways,” he said.
While the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a protest in the constituency, Gandhi met booth-level workers of the party in Harchandpur and Unchahar constituencies.
He also held interactions with representatives of the Prajapati Samaj at Shanti Grand Hotel. Later, he unveiled the Ashok Stambh in the Sadar assembly constituency and took part in a tree plantation programme.
The BJP staged demonstrations against Gandhi in Raebareli, protesting remarks made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother by an unidentified individual during the now-concluded ‘voter adhikar yatra’ in Bihar.
Party workers carrying BJP flags and placards shouted slogans against the Congress MP. Police intervened to disperse the crowd, with some protesters sitting down on the road. Uttar Pradesh minister Dinesh Pratap Singh also joined the protest.
