Continuous heavy rainfall in Himachal’s Kullu and Mandi districts has caused widespread disruption. Several rivers are overflowing, and many areas are dealing with landslides, waterlogging, and blocked roads.
The Chandigarh–Manali Highway is closed at many places due to falling boulders and mudslides, leaving many travelers stranded. The authorities are urging people to avoid non-essential travel.
In Mandi’s Balh subdivision, rainwater has entered homes and shops, forcing many people to move to higher ground for safety.
Meanwhile, according to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), 309 roads, including NH-305, are blocked across the state due to landslides and debris flows. As many as 236 water supply schemes and 113 power transformers are not working, affecting essential services like drinking water and electricity.
Mandi district is the worst hit, with 23 rain-related deaths and 14 more in road accidents. It has also seen the most damage to roads, water supply systems, and power lines. Kangra follows with 24 deaths due to rain and six in accidents. Kullu has reported 10 monsoon-related deaths and eight from road accidents. Chamba and Shimla have also suffered significant damage.
The worst-hit districts are Mandi, Kullu, and Chamba, where most road blockages and service disruptions have been reported. In Lahaul-Spiti, National Highway-505 is still closed because of landslides and flashfloods, cutting off important access routes.
The SDMA says the total damage to public infrastructure, including roads, power lines, water systems, health centres, and schools, has crossed ₹1,714.95 crore. Over 88,800 hectares of crops have also been affected, especially in farming and horticulture.
