RG Kar officials misled doctor's parents, audio reveals

Students stage protests outside RG Kar Medical College, demanding justice and accountability in the alleged rape and murder of a woman doctor inside the campus.

Two audio clips, purportedly revealing a cover-up attempt by officials at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital following the death of a woman doctor on August 9, have gone viral.

The recordings whih have gone viral displays how the hospital allegedly misled the doctor’s parents when her body was discovered inside a seminar hall.

The first audio features a conversation between the victim’s father and a woman, believed to be an assistant superintendent at RG Kar hospital, who informs him that his daughter is “extremely unwell and has been hospitalised.”

The second clip captures a man telling the family that the trainee doctor may have committed suicide and urges them to come to the hospital immediately.

In both recordings, the doctor’s parents repeatedly seek clarity about their daughter's condition, but the officials dodge their questions, insisting that only a doctor can provide accurate information.

“Her condition is really bad. Your daughter has been hospitalised; please come quickly,” a woman is heard saying in the first clip.

When pressed for details, she responds: “I am not a doctor, I am an assistant superintendent; your daughter has been admitted to the emergency, her condition is very bad. A doctor will tell you more about this.”

The transcript of the conversation reveals the parents’ distress:

RG Kar Official: She is unwell. Come to the hospital. We’re admitting her.

Parents: Please tell us what has happened?

RG Kar Official: She is really unwell; we’re admitting her.

Parents: Does she have a fever? How bad is her condition?

RG Kar Official: Doctors will tell you when you come.

Parents: Does she have a fever?

RG Kar Official: Can’t say, might have committed suicide.

Parents: [Silence]

The second clip takes a darker turn, as a man informs the parents: “Please come as soon as possible. Your daughter is no more. She may have committed suicide.

The police are here, so you also come quickly. You will know more when you are here.”

Although the audio clips have not been independently verified by News Arena India, they lend weight to the parents' statements that hospital authorities told them their daughter had died by suicide and that they were not allowed to see her body for three hours after reaching the hospital.

Sources have identified the voice in the first clip as Anita Dhara, an assistant superintendent at RG Kar Medical College.

However, the former head of the Department of Chest Medicine told police and the CBI that the call was actually made by Dwaipayan Biswas, a deputy superintendent.

The CBI is currently probing the circumstances surrounding the doctor’s death, which has been labelled by many as a potential cover-up by the authorities involved.
