Sanjay Roy claims innocence: "Found doctor covered in blood"

CCTV footage from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital (R) shows Sanjoy Roy entering the premises shortly after midnight on August 9.

Sanjay Roy, the primary suspect in the high-profile murder and rape case involving a doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, has declared his innocence and insisted that he is being framed, according to his lawyer.

Roy, who was apprehended on August 10, was arrested following the brutal murder of the young doctor.

His arrest was prompted by CCTV footage capturing his presence near the scene and the recovery of his Bluetooth headset from the seminar hall where the crime took place.

During a recent polygraph test, Roy maintained his stance of innocence, despite being subjected to a series of probing questions.

His lawyer, Kavita Sarkar, stated that Roy vehemently denied any involvement in the crime, asserting that he was merely in the wrong place at the wrong time.

According to the claims made by Roy, which have not yet been independently verified by News Arena India, he found the doctor unconscious and covered in blood when he entered the seminar hall on August 9.

Roy contends that upon discovering the grim scene, he fled the room in panic, believing he would be wrongly implicated in the incident.

Roy further claimed that he did not know the victim personally and suggested that he had been framed. When questioned about his failure to notify the authorities, Roy explained that he feared his account would not be believed.

Lawyer Kavita Sarkar has echoed these sentiments, suggesting that the evidence points to a significant security lapse at the hospital on the night of the incident.

"If Sanjay Roy had such easy access to the seminar hall, it indicates a potential breach in security that could have allowed another perpetrator to commit the crime," she said.

The victim, a trainee doctor, was found to have been raped and murdered within the confines of the seminar hall, where she had been resting during a grueling 36-hour shift. The autopsy revealed she suffered from multiple injuries and was sexually assaulted.
