Second snowfall of season in Uttarakhand's Chakrata

Snowfall in Uttarakhand: The weather has shifted today, with overcast skies and a drop in temperature due to the snowfall.

Uttarakhand experienced the second snowfall of the season in Chakrata on Monday, has excited tourists. The cold is expected to increase in the state before Christmas and New Year. Meteorologists had predicted rain and snowfall in the hill districts of Uttarakhand on Monday.


Snowfall began at 12 noon on Monday in the higher areas of Chakrata, including Lohari, Lokhandi, Moila, Deoban, and Koti Kanasar. The snowfall continues intermittently, and about one inch of snow has already accumulated. If the weather stays the same, heavy snowfall is expected at night.


Snowfall has also started in and around Yamunotri Dham, while light drizzle is happening in the lower areas. Snowfall lasted for about an hour in the Dham and its nearby regions, and drizzle occurred in the tehsil area. 


The cold has increased due to the rain and snow, prompting people to stay indoors. Traders are using Aagethi (heaters) to stay warm. Snow also fell in Mukhaba, the winter residence of Maa Ganga.

According to the Meteorological Centre, light rain and snowfall are expected in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Tehri, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Almora, and Dehradun’s mountainous areas. 


However, the weather will remain dry in other parts of the state. Meteorologists warn that temperatures may drop due to the rain and snow, causing the cold to intensify from the mountains to the plains.


Regarding the temperature on Sunday, the maximum temperature in Doon was 24.5°C, which was four degrees higher than usual, while the minimum temperature was 7.2°C, which was two degrees above normal. 


This is the highest minimum temperature in recent years, caused by changes in the weather pattern.
