The Jharkhand government has decided to honour the legacy of Shibu Soren, a towering figure of tribal identity and the statehood movement, by converting his official residence in Morhabadi, Ranchi, into a “Guruji Memorial Museum.”
The decision was approved during the state cabinet meeting held on Tuesday.
Health Minister Dr Irfan Ansari and Urban Development Minister Sudivya Kumar placed the proposal before Chief Minister Hemant Soren, stressing the need to preserve Guruji’s memories for future generations.
Both ministers underlined that Shibu Soren’s life was deeply tied to sacrifice, struggle, and the foundation of the Jharkhand movement.
“Guruji’s house is not just a building, it is the epicentre of the Jharkhand movement and our emotions. Every corner of his home reminds us of his dedication and struggle. Turning it into a memorial museum is essential so that the younger generation can draw inspiration from his ideas and philosophy,” Dr Ansari said.
Echoing this sentiment, Minister Sudivya Kumar added, “Guruji’s memories will remain immortal. This museum will keep alive the story of Jharkhand’s identity and its struggle.”

The cabinet also considered a proposal to build a grand park and install a towering statue of Shibu Soren at his birthplace and karmabhoomi, Chirudih in Jamtara district. This sacred land, where Soren began his social and political journey, holds immense symbolic significance.
According to the government, the park and statue will serve as enduring symbols of Guruji’s struggle, public service, and leadership in the Jharkhand movement.
Visitors will be able to connect with his contributions, while the state’s younger generations, especially from tribal communities, will find inspiration in his ideals.
Shibu Soren, popularly known as Dishom Guru, played an unforgettable role in Jharkhand’s history and its fight for statehood. He not only led the movement but also provided direction to the state’s politics and social causes after Jharkhand was formed.
