The Sikkim Police has established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to find Ram Chandra Poudyal, an 80-year-old former minister who went missing on July 7.
The seasoned politician, who had left his home in Chota Singtam, Pakyong district, on Sunday morning, has not been seen since.
Superintendent of Police Karma Gyamtso Bhutia announced the formation of the SIT, which is focusing its efforts on locating Poudyal.
"A Special Investigation Team has been constituted to investigate the missing person case of Ram Chandra Poudyal," Bhutia stated.
A police team from Pakyong Police Station has been dispatched to Siliguri, West Bengal, in the hope of finding clues to Poudyal's whereabouts.
Despite the family reaching out to all relatives and friends, no information has emerged.
Poudyal had informed his family that he would return by the afternoon on the day he went missing. When he did not return, the family lodged a missing person report with the local police.
Poudyal's distinguished political career includes serving as the Deputy Speaker of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly and holding a ministerial position in the 1970s. He also led the Sikkim Congress (Revolutionary) and The Rising Sun parties.
