In a bid to promote environmental awareness, Sikkim will observe 'A Day for Mother Earth' on July 7th, 2024, with a unique initiative to halt all vehicular movement for seven minutes.

Launched by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang in 2019, this annual event aims to contribute to nature and raise awareness about environmental issues.

On July 7th, from 11:00 am to 11:07 am, all vehicles across the state will come to a standstill, with the exception of emergency and essential services.

This pause is designed to draw attention to the pressing issues of global warming and climate change. Traffic police have been instructed to ensure compliance during this period.

The state government has urged all traffic police personnel to facilitate the halt and ensure a smooth implementation of the initiative.

By involving various stakeholders, Sikkim aims to create widespread environmental awareness and encourage collective action to address the adverse effects of climate change.
