Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal has issued his first work orders from Enforcement Directorate custody, asking Water Minister Atishi to sort out the Capital's water and sewerage problems.
His directions, received late on Saturday, which by Atishi's own admission “brought tears" to her eyes, however, had the BJP crying foul.
Speaking at a press conference, an emotional Atishi said despite his own problems Kejriwal was concerned about the people of Delhi. He had asked for water tankers to be sent to areas where water was scarce to improve supply as summer was approaching.
Atishi said she had been asked by Kejriwal to issue instructions to the chief secretary and other officers and seek help from Lt Governor VK Saxena, with whom Kejriwal has often traded words, if needed.
The CM had said he expected Saxena to extend assistance to the state government.
BJP in the meantime questioned Kejriwal’s move, with party leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa alleging that a “fraud” had been committed as it was an official letter issued from the office of the Delhi Chief Minister mentioning the jal mantri (water minister), which was "illegal and unconstitutional," as the Chief Minister was in ED custody.
Kejriwal was arrested by ED officials in a case linked to excise policy on the evening of March 21. Earlier in the day his plea to restrain ED from taking any coercive action against him was rejected by the Delhi High Court.
