Many cities in Southern India are set to witness a rare astronomical event today - the 'Zero Shadow Day.' People will see their shadows disappear briefly.
The phenomenon is known as Zero Shadow Day. It occurs precisely between 12:17 PM and 12:23 PM and lasts about six minutes. During this brief window, the sun aligns perfectly overhead, causing vertical objects to cast no shadows.
Zero Shadow Day occurs twice a year in regions situated between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn, where the sun's rays can be perpendicular to the Earth's surface at solar noon.
Cities where people can witness Zero Shadow Day are:
Kanyakumari: 10 April and 01 September (Local Noon: 12:21, 12:22)
Bengaluru: 24 April and 18 August (Local Noon: 12:17, 12:25)
Hyderabad: 09 May and 05 August (Local Noon: 12:12, 12:19)
Mumbai: 15 May and 27 June (Local Noon: 12:34, 12:45)
Bhopal: 13 June and 28 June (Local Noon: 12:20, 12:23)
