In the wake of India’s retaliatory strikes on terror camps in Pakistan as part of Operation Sindoor, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu convened a high-level meeting to review the state’s preparedness and reinforce public safety measures.
Addressing media persons, CM Sukhu expressed solidarity with the Indian Army, stating, "We are proud of the Indian Army and the people of Himachal Pradesh stand with the India Army and the country for giving a befitting reply to the terrorists who killed innocent people in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir."
Officials, including deputy commissioners and superintendents of police—particularly from the border districts—have been instructed to remain on high alert. Emphasis has been laid on strengthening security mechanisms and using advanced technology to gather intelligence inputs.
Himachal shares a 240-kilometre border with China across the districts of Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti. Given the sensitive situation, the Chief Minister announced the cancellation of his public engagements, citing central directives to avoid public gatherings. “Following directions to avoid public meetings, I have cancelled my programme today," he added.
The Chief Minister also underlined the importance of public awareness and issued directives to counter potential enemy propaganda on social media. Regarding school operations in border areas, he said that respective deputy commissioners would assess the situation and take appropriate decisions on closures if needed.
Echoing the CM’s concerns, Himachal Assembly Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur said the prevailing conditions resemble a "war-like situation" and emphasised the need for securing essential supplies, maintaining law and order, and informing the public to navigate the tense environment. He confirmed that a separate review meeting would also be held later in the day.
