The Telangana government has decided to introduce a ‘Facial Recognition Attendance’ system to improve accuracy, efficiency and security in the attendance system in government offices across the state.
The system uses advanced technology to verify individual identities through facial features, eliminating the need for manual signing and will enable seamless attendance marking. The Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari has issued orders for adopting the modern technology tool.
As per the order, the employee upon arrival will stand in front of the device at the marked place looking directly at the camera for a few seconds, following which the person’s face will be recognised and attendance marked. The recording of attendance will be at the time of checking in and leaving the office.
The attendance of all regular secretariat employees, including all Circulating Officers, and outsourced staff, whose pay and allowances, and remuneration are being drawn by regular secretariat departments from the Secretariat Heads of Account, will be recorded.
The registration of employees and outsourcing staff will commence on November 22. A message will be sent to mobile numbers, provided by the respective departments, allotting slots, dates and times for registration.
All regular staff must carry their ID cards and last month's pay slip for registration purposes, the order said. The outsourcing staff should carry their ID cards and a copy of the same attested by the respective department head. Face recognising devices will be installed in adequate numbers at all entry and exit points of the building apart from on each floor, near the lifts and at the respective departments.
