The search operation to capture terrorists-dead or alive-entered its second day on Thursday in the Renji woodland forest of North Kashmir's Bandipora district.

The terrorists have gone into hiding since the initial exchange of fire with security forces.

On Wednesday, a joint team comprising police, the Army's 13RR(Rashtriya Rifles), and the CRPF conducted a cordon and search operation in Bandipora's Renji forest region after receiving specific information regarding the presence of at least two and three terrorists.

As the joint team of forces closed in on the probable location, the terrorists hiding there opened fire, resulting in a fierce gunfight.

Meanwhile, two soldiers were injured and were rushed to the nearby hospital for treatment.

An army spokesperson informed that "all exit points have been sealed and lights have been installed to prevent terrorists from escaping,", as per local sources.

He added that the search operation continued for the entire night and will continue through Thursday.

He further added that "helicopters and other assistance have been pressed into service to track down the terrorists, while the escaping of terrorists can’t be ruled out."

Due to the dense forest cover, there is a high possibility that those hiding terrorists might manage to evade the eyes of the searching security forces.

However, the security forces have been kept on high alert, especially in the wake of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, as terrorists might try to disturb the peace and polling process in Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier on Tuesday, a terrorist code-named Abu Hamza, along with his suspected associates, entered the home of a serving Territorial Army man in Rajouri and fatally shot his brother.
