Dhaanvi Karthikeyan from Chennai has made history by becoming the first female student from Tamil Nadu to visit an astronaut training and satellite manufacturing facility in Moscow, Russia. The eighteen-year-old, who lives in Virugambakkam, was selected from a nationwide online competition in which nearly five lakh students participated. She was chosen as one of only five students from India to attend a five-day International Aerospace Camp in the Russian capital.
During the programme, she visited the cosmonaut training centre and observed satellite manufacturing processes at the International Aerospace Centre in Moscow. She also had the opportunity to interact with experienced cosmonauts and learn about the technical aspects involved in space missions. Dhaanvi says that her interest in quantum mechanics encouraged her to pursue subjects related to space.
Dhaanvi recently cleared Class 12 from a private school in Chennai and attempted the NEET exam, since she wants to study medicine as her profession. Concurrently with school studies, she did an online course on Quantum Mechanics offered by Stanford University through a private centre, which further energised her interest in physics and aerospace studies.
Her father is employed in a private software firm, and her family was filled with great pride at her success. Relatives and friends came to greet her at the Chennai Airport. After getting this opportunity, she has been inspired to pursue more career opportunities that merge her interests in science and space research.
