Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has revealed that the recent unprecedented floods have inflicted an estimated Rs 15,000 crore in damages, leaving a trail of devastation across the state.

The floods, which began on Monday, have claimed 24 lives and forced 1.28 lakh residents to seek refuge in 557 relief camps.

Speaking after an all-party meeting on Saturday, CM Saha underscored the scale of the disaster.

"The devastation is immense, with an estimated loss of Rs 15,000 crore. This figure may rise once a final assessment is made," he stated.

The deluge has also triggered 2,588 landslides and damaged 1,603 electric posts, further complicating recovery efforts.

In a rare display of political unity, representatives from major political parties attended the all-party meeting and pledged to work together during this critical period.

The meeting concluded with a consensus to request the central government to dispatch a team for an independent assessment of the damage and to secure additional financial aid for the state.

The government has announced a compensation package, offering Rs 4 lakh to the families of those who lost their lives and Rs 2.5 lakh to those injured in the floods.

Restoration efforts are already underway, with a focus on ensuring the supply of essential goods.

To prevent any opportunistic price gouging, CM Saha has directed the Food and Civil Supplies Minister, Sushanta Chowdhury, to monitor markets closely.

"There is ample stock of food and fuel in the state. We urge the public not to panic," Saha reassured, promising stringent measures to keep prices stable.

The Chief Minister also commended the opposition parties for their cooperative stance, highlighting the importance of unity in overcoming the crisis.

BJP state chief spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty lauded Saha's leadership and the decision to involve all political leaders in the government's response strategy.
