Tuensang, the largest district in Nagaland, is currently under a complete shutdown in anticipation of a Joint Coordination meeting involving legislators from the Eastern Nagaland region and a Member of Parliament voicing their demand for the Frontier Nagaland Territory.

According to the Eastern Nagaland Public Emergency Control Room in Tuensang HQ, all business operations, vehicular movements, and public activities, including educational institutions, will remain suspended within Tuensang town.

Exceptions are made for delegates attending the meeting, medical emergencies, and Fire & Emergency services.

However, the Control Room has mandated that all attendees arrive in private vehicles and refrain from personal bodyguards, citing the enforcement of a 'Public Emergency' prohibiting government vehicles from operating in the region.

Meanwhile, twenty legislators and the MP are currently stationed in New Delhi, awaiting an audience with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs to address issues regarding the Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT).

Reports suggest that the Eastern Nagaland Legislators Union (ENLU) urged the ENPO to consider postponing the Joint Coordination Meeting. However, the apex Organization reportedly declined the request.

Originally slated for March 15, 2024, the meeting was postponed due to legislators' travel to the capital.

In a significant stance, the ENPO has declared its decision to abstain from participating in the Lok Sabha elections scheduled for April 19, 2024.

The historical context surrounding Nagaland's status traces back to its former designation as a district within the state of Assam until 1957, commonly known as "The Naga Hills."

During this period, the Naga National Council, led by Zapu Phizo, advocated for an independent Naga state, sparking an armed insurgency. The Indian Government, in response, maintained Nagaland's integral status within the Indian Union.
